Safe Water After Hurricane Helene
Operation Safe Water is an easy, pay-it-forward way to help get water testing kits in the homes and businesses that need them.
/
We’ve all seen the unexpected devastation that flooding and widespread power outages from Hurricane Helene brought to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses.
There is a serious — but avoidable — health threat looming for many of our neighbors as they begin rebuilding and repairing what was lost. Anyone depending on a well for their water supply may have E. coli or other life-threatening contaminants in their systems and not know it. As the power comes back on, it’s critical that each well’s water be tested.
We can help keep our neighbors safe today.

Homes in remote areas are dependent on well water and are at risk. But with major municipal water systems badly damaged and non-operational in places like Asheville, NC, there’s another huge risk right now.
As the power comes back on, those with well water systems are reaching out to help supply water to friends and neighbors where the public water supply is unavailable. They’ll be a lifeline for many others until safe public water systems are repaired and operational in the next few months. That water is especially at risk of contamination and needs to be tested.

In response to Hurricane Helene’s devastation, Water Mission deployed their disaster response team to the hardest-hit areas in North Carolina, starting in Boone. As of Friday, October 4, their team has more than six water treatment systems either operational or in the set-up process. Each system provides safe water to up to 5,000 people daily. Additionally, we are distributing 62,000 water purification packets and hundreds of generators, with more on the way.
How You Can Help Today
For $65 per kit, you can pay-it-forward and help us get these kits to at-risk neighbors, distribution centers, relief workers, and everyone working tirelessly to help support those who need well water testing.
